Redbook:
U.S. Retail Sales fell 1.3 percent during first four weeks of September compared to August. according to Redbook Research’s latest indicator of national retail sales. The drop in the index was steeper than the targeted 1 percent decline, according to the report. The Johnson Redbook Index additionally showed seasonally adjusted sales in the month-to-date rose 1.4 percent compared with September 2007 which was just short of the 1.7 percent targeted increase. On an unadjusted basis, sales in the week ending September 27 were up 1 percent from the same week in 2007, after a 1.2 percent gain the previous week. September is a five-week month in the retail calendar ending October 4.
Consumer Confidence:
U.S. Conference Board September Consumer Confidence came in at 59.8 versus August reading of 58.5; Conference Board presented September expectations Index came in at 60.5 versus August reading at 54.1; Conference Board September Present Situation Index came in at 58.8 versus August reading at 65.0.
