The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. (Rs. 97.75,+2.57%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 725.70,+2.20%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2383.00,+2.11%), Hero Honda Motors Ltd. (Rs. 1634.25,+1.97%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 712.00,+1.74%), among others.
In BSE, BSE IT index was at 6627.84 up by 110.37 points or by 1.69%. Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd. (Rs. 2050.00,+3.51%), Financial Technologies (India) Ltd. (Rs. 913.10,+3.22%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 478.50,+2.45%), MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 430.25,+2.25%), Core Projects & Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 319.90,+1.96%).
In BSE, BSE TECk index was at 3901.58 up by 57.24 points or by 1.49%. IBN18 Broadcast Ltd. (Rs. 98.50,+5.35%), Wire & Wireless (India) Ltd. (Rs. 9.75,+5.06%), Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. (Rs. 6.86,+4.57%), OnMobile Global Ltd. (Rs. 252.60,+3.95%), Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd. (Rs. 2050.00,+3.51%).
The benchmark indices were trading firm during the mid session on persistent buying in selected counters, mainly IT and TECk, on the back of sustained capital inflows by foreign funds, coupled with strong Asian cues. During the past hour the markets surged immensely on heavy inflow of funds from foreign investors. Throughout the session, the major averages traded range bound. Back on the domestic front, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) rules in the country is relaxed as the government has decided to permit the issuance of equity to overseas firms against imported capital goods and machinery.
The broader market indices are trading with sizeable gains as BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading up by 1.6% and 2.4% respectively. The key benchmark indices are trading at BSE 30-share Sensex above 19,620 mark, while Nifty is above the 5,875 mark.
At 12:32PM BSE SENSEX was at 19622.87 up by 202.48 points or by 1.04 % and then NSE Nifty was at 5878.35 up by 52.3 points or by 0.9 %.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 7091.05 up by 108.11 points or by 1.55 %. while the BSE SMLCAP was at 8555.83 up by 197.64 points or by 2.36 %.
The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 19635.97 and intraday low of 19449.36 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 5888.05 and intraday low of 5833.2
On the economic front, As per the CAG report, fuel and petroleum products has been the provider of 60 per cent of the government’s total revenue from excise in 2009-10, where the total collection from the Central Government in excise stood at Rs 1.02 lakh crore in 2009-10.Besides, the report further classifies the individual contribution of motor spirit, which was 24.12 per cent, refined diesel oil with 22.49 per cent, other mineral oils at 12.16 per cent and furnace oil with 2.38 per cent. During the period, other mineral oils and products collectively provided Rs 12,510.37 crore and furnace oil contributed Rs 2,445.72 crore.
On the corporate front, Shriram Transport Finance shares were up after Singapore-based Temasek Holdings was looking to acquire 10-14% of the company, through a partial buy-out of TPG Capital’s stake.
Bajaj Auto Ltd. mentioned that it had a record year in FY11 with total vehicle sales, motorcycle sales, three-wheeler sales and exports all clocking all-time high volumes.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3,535, shares advanced were 2,192 while 471 shares declined and 872 were unchanged.
