Can the Stock Market Rally in the Face of Higher Interest Rates?
The prime Fed treasury rates are the curve-ball in the world financial deck – and governments are terrified at the vision. Administrations, which include all levels of authority – city, county, state, federal, as well as foreign entities, desperately need interest rates maintained at current low levels across the board for several reasons.
Consumers guide the economy. This has been well understood for years. In the US, the consumer is the reason for 2/3 of the US economic Gross Domestic Product. But a problem exists – the consumer is dismally in personal debt from arrant government monetary debasing, and broken financial and banking de-regulation allowing the ordinary man or woman to borrow far a lot more than they could significantly pay down. This assumes that the average person is still working at all, and if that worker had to take a substantial cut in wages to stay employed. It has been estimated that real unemployment, including under-employment is around 22% in the United States.
The powers that be want to keep interest rates low because it keeps interest on their debt at lower ranges. The government also want to keep the price of the precious metals down as well (we can see how well that strategy has worked for them thus far). JP Morgan, and other big banks, also want to keep the metals at bay – they are in the business of trading money, and they also have hefty short positions down on the precious metals.
The government sees lower interest rates as a ‘healthy state’ to be in for an economy. Did lowering the interest rates to zero keep Japan from a 16-year recession? How could such a philosophy be a suitable alternative to a stable, solid economic state?
If (or should I say, when) interest rates rise suddenly high, the cost of doing business will multiply significantly. Their customers will be unable to spend money on services and products like they did when credit was flowing in the form of Home Equity Lines of Credit and personal lines of credit, and credit cards – business will dwindle.
Given a slower business model, this will lead to fewer profits, and ultimately less income for big business. But in spite of all this dismal news, the government will try its best to keep the presses going full on, and the master stock market traders will capitalize on such horrible news events as a reason to force out the weakest players in the game – this is how they make their money continuously, over and over again. The equity markets will most likely tick ever higher and higher. We anticipate the market, conversely, to rally going into the end of the year and even next year. It won’t be a vertical shot to the top, but the broad-market trend will be up! We could see the markets possibly reach near their highs by the end of the year.
