How to Plan a New Years Eve Poker Party
So you’ve decided to throw a poker bash this New Years eve? That sounds like a good plan because going out to a club or bar every year can get pretty old. There’s nothing more annoying than be crammed into a small, sweaty, loud booth with a bunch of unintelligent drunks hovering around you, at least that’s my opinion. But if you’re staying in this year and you want to have a really great time playing poker with you buddies, then you’ll have to do a little advance planning to make the evening a hit with all of your guests.
1. First you will need all of the proper poker supplies. Don’t skimp and buy a bunch of cheap stuff. Purchasing some high quality poker tables and chip sets can really give the night a more authentic feel. Don’t forget to have at least one deck of cards per table as well and any other supplies you will need, depending on the game you will be playing.
2. Invite your guests ahead of time. Give them at least two weeks advance notice. People like to set up their New Years plans weeks in advance, so if you want anyone to show up, you’ve got to make sure they commit to your party before they hear about anyone else’s.
3. When inviting your guests, make sure they know the stakes of the game. Will you be playing for fun or will it be a serious game with high stakes? Everyone should have an idea of how much cash they should bring with so there is no financial embarrassment.
4. Stock up on tons of food. When people play poker, they love to eat junk food and appetizers. So make sure you’ve a little something for everyone. Chips and dip is always a safe choice. But you can really add an elegant touch by preparing some black cavier or bruschetta.
5. Stock up on tons of alcohol. The combination of New Years and poker means that people are coming to your house to get a little tipsy, so don’t disappoint or under whelm them by having a small unvaried selection. Make sure you’ve got vodka, beer, wine and of course a few bottles of champagne to pop open once the clock strikes midnight.
If you follow these five simple tips, your New Years Eve poker party will full of fun. Just remember to drink and play responsibly.
