BAGCO and OLAM report profits
Feb 20 (www.easykobo.com) - Singapore headquartered Olam International Ltd has reported a 8.5% drop in profit in second quarter of 2010. The drop in profit could have been larger if not for high commodity prices which are good for Olam International Ltd. Profit declined by 8.5% to $113 million.
Olam was previously a purely commodity trading company but has been acquiring assets in Africa to become a more vertically integrated commodity trading company. Its recent ventures in Africa include a fertilizer plant in Gabon and a Sugar refinery in Lagos, Nigeria. The company also manufactures and sells instant noodles in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Bag Manufacturing Company Plc (NSE=BAGCO) has accounced its financial results for the 9 months ending December 2010. Turnover increased 13% to N8.69 billion in 2010 from N7.65 billion in 2009. Profit after tax increased 14% to N668 million in 2010 from N582 million in 2009.
BAGCO stock has been a big winner for investors in 2011 so far. It increased 34% in January before retreating 20% in February. Today the stock is trading higher by 5% at N3.18
BAGCO is owned by Flour Mills of Nigeria PLC which produces cement and mills wheat grain. BAGCO produces packing for cement, grain and other products.
Nigerian Bag Manufacturing Company Plc released its 2nd quarter ending Sep 2010 results last week. Revenue increased 11% to N5.7 billion from 5.1 billion in 2nd quarter 2009. Net profit increased 8.25% to N509 million. The company is owned by Flour mills of Nigeria plc.
The BAGCO stock returned 34% in January 2011 when it hit a high of N 3.6. Since then profit taking has seen to stock price reduce by 20% to N 2.89 today at 1PM in Lagos. Easykobo considers this to be a good entry point for investors and rates this stock as a “strong buy” with a price target of N5.25 in 2011.
BAGCO manufactures a wide range of woven polypropylene bags for cement, detergent and jumbo packs.
