Why Choose Stock Music?
There are many reasons why small production outfits opt for stock music over big-budgeted composition?
Stock music or royalty free music is cheaper. If you have limited budget and cannot afford to pay for a composer’s fee and producing and recording the material, royalty free music is for you. In the first place, whether you already have your own composition and do not have to hire a professional, recording it will still be expensive, unless you have your own recording studio and you know a lot about sound engineering, you can get away with stock music. Imagine the spending of producing the music alone. Compared to purchasing a tune of the Internet, recording your own would mean a huge spending.
License and copyright issues. Some productions find it hard to choose which music to use for their background because of the hassles of dealing with the rights of a certain copyrighted materials. Do you know that using stock music saves you from this? Royalty-free music are licensed music but available for public use. You can use it as many times as you like without risks. This means that you do not have to face a lawsuit if the composer heard it playing on the radio without his permission.
Buying stock music is better to save time. Apart from eating up a huge slice of the budget, producing your own music could eat up too much of your time as well. Consider having the opportunity to have a lot of time to deal with other highlights of the production that you might be spending looking after the status of the music. Imagine too how you can perfect your production more because you are focused on it.
Serious directors may be frustrated over the use of stock music. It would be more fulfilling if you could have the chance to use the material you want but using royalty-free makes no difference after all as you still get to choose. There are web sites that offer this kind of service and they have a wide array of music to choose from under certain categories. If you are a fan of a specific genre that you feel suitable for your production, you can free choose whatever catches your ears. At a very low price, you get what you want in perfect condition.
